The Judith and William Borten Scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving undergraduate student preparing for a career in secondary special education in the State of Maryland.
In spite of key policy and legislative initiatives that address school to work transition for youth with disabilities, these youth continue to experience challenges as they prepare for postsecondary settings. Compounding this challenge is the nationwide shortage of special education teachers at the secondary level. Therefore, this Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollar ($2,500.00) scholarship will be awarded by TransCen to a college student who is preparing for a career in secondary special education in Maryland.
TransCen is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving educational and employment outcomes for youth with disabilities. Through this scholarship we honor founding TransCen Board members, Judith and William Borten, for their advocacy, dedication, and contribution to improving postsecondary outcomes for youth with disabilities.
