Alvin has worked for AMB for over five years. AMB is a real estate investment trust based in San Francisco. AMB contacted WorkLink with a need for a clerical assistant. Alvin’s responsibilities began with a part-time position, managing a central filing room for the Acquisitions department, which included collecting and filing all inactive submissions, sending old files to storage and pulling files requested by managers. Because of Alvin’s success with this task, other departments also requested assistance from him. In one year Alvin’s administrative support position grew from 20 to 40 hours a week and Alvin became a fully benefited employee. Now Alvin’s responsibilities are quite varied. As well as his responsibilities in the Acquisitions department, he works across many departments and does most of the filing, copying and collating at AMB. He is also solely responsible for sorting through their considerable amount of mail. Alvin’s position allows the very busy administrative assistants at AMB to prioritize their own time in a much more efficient manner, which essentially benefits the whole company.
