We deeply mourn the loss of our colleague, dear friend, and passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities, Meghan Jones, who passed away on January 8, 2025, “earning her wings.”
Meghan accomplished so much in her life, inspiring everyone around her with her determination and unwavering commitment to her goals. From 2014 to 2020, she worked as a Clerical Assistant at TransCen, contributing to various projects, including her impactful work with the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center. Simultaneously, she worked at Giant Food Store as a Product Demonstrator and Sampling Specialist, showcasing her dedication to hard work and community engagement.
Beyond her professional roles, Meghan was a vibrant force in her community. She volunteered as a Board Member for Upcounty Community Resources, helping coordinate the VisArts program and numerous social events. Her faith was central to her life, as reflected in her active involvement in her church, where she served on the youth group leadership council and as an altar server. A moment of immense pride for Meghan-and for those who knew her-was when she served as the lector for the second reading during Pope Francis’s visit to Washington, D.C.
In May 2023, Meghan celebrated one of her greatest achievements: earning a Certificate in American Sign Language from Montgomery College, a milestone that reflected her passion for learning.
Meghan was a relentless advocate for integrated employment. She served as Vice Chair of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council and testified before Maryland legislators and the U.S. Department of Labor Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Competitive Integrated
Employment for Individuals with Disabilities. In July 2024, Meghan’s leadership and advocacy were honored when she was inducted into the NACDD Self Advocate Leadership Circle.
Meghan was truly a woman on the move, radiating enthusiasm for life and learning that was undeniably contagious. Her Facebook introduction summed it up perfectly:
“I’m Meghan Jones…and I love life!”
Though Meghan is no longer with us, her remarkable spirit, resilience, and joy live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Meghan made our world brighter, and we are all better for having known her.
