PHS Altrue is a team of dedicated high schoolers from Poolesville High School working towards creating a better workplace for people with disabilities. As part of a project, they contacted TransCen to find a way to make a more accommodating workplace for an individual with a disability. We connected the Altrue team with our job coach Khoa, and our client, Molly, who works at ArtSpring. Part of Molly’s job is to fold shirts, but she needed some work supports to work better and faster.
The Altrue team talked with Molly and watched her at her job. Together, they came up with an idea – a device to help Molly fold shirts. The Altrue team developed an automatic shirt folder, which has helped Molly tremendously. Molly’s productivity with folding shirts has increased, which has helped her gain a lot of confidence, as well as independence.
This is an amazing story of innovation and partnership!
